good winter habits - tips to look after your teeth

Good oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist will help you maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Here are some tips to help you look after your teeth.

  • Brush twice a day. The best time to brush is after meals. Soft bristles are more gentle to soft tissues. Brush with an angled 45 degree motion. Do not brush vigorously as this can lead to loss of tooth structure or cause gum recession.

  • Use fluoridated toothpaste. Fluoride helps to harden tooth enamel and reduces your risk of decay.

  • Brush thoroughly. Tooth brushing should take between two and three minutes.

  • Floss your teeth daily with an up and down motion. Create a C shape around the tooth with the floss to contact as much tooth structure as possible.
