Common Dental Emergencies and What to Do

🦷 Knocked-Out Tooth

If an adult (permanent) tooth is knocked out:

  • Keep it moist at all times.

  • If possible, gently place the tooth back into its socket — avoid touching the root.

  • If you can’t reinsert it, place the tooth in one of the following:

    • Between your cheek and gum

    • A small container of milk

    • A tooth preservation kit with the ADA Seal of Acceptance

💥 Cracked or Broken Tooth

If you crack a tooth:

  • Rinse your mouth gently with warm water to keep the area clean.

  • Apply a cold compress to your face to reduce swelling.

  • Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth

😣 Toothache

For tooth pain:

  • Rinse your mouth with warm water.

  • Use dental floss to gently remove any food or debris caught between teeth.

  • Do not apply aspirin or any painkiller directly to your gums — it can cause burns.
